In 1 Thessalonians chapter 5, Paul gives this three word instruction in verse 17: “pray without ceasing.”
Hold on to that.
In another letter to the Philippians church, Paul is giving instruction again. This time, in Philippians 4:6 he tells us to “not be anxious about anything.”
Hold on to that as well.
Unfortunately, we have reversed the order of these scripture verses in our lifestyle -- We worry without ceasing and pray for nothing! I have to admit I am guilty of this too.
Jesus clearly mentions in Matthew 6:25-26 not to be anxious -
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"
God wants us to trust Him. He reminds us that He is worthy of that trust. He is sovereign over all matters of our lives. He knows how to care for us better than we know how to care for ourselves. Instead of trusting the character and care of God, we fool ourselves into thinking that worrying about things is somehow going to erase or bring a positive outcome.
God understands that we worry, but He also offers us a better choice. That is to pray.
So tonight, as you go to bed, take a minute to pray and cast your thoughts and burdens to the Lord. Let Him carry it for you. I promise you, He will bless you with a restful sleep and will bring a solution by morning or in the coming days. Therefore, be patient, Worry less and pray more.
Let's Pray:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for this night. I pray you carry all my burdens. Help me to worry less and pray more. I am counting on you for all things in my life. I trust you and my faith is in you. Thank you for blessing me with your peace and assurance. In Jesus name, Amen.
I pray this Devotion encouraged you. If you have any encouraging words to share, please share in the comments below. God bless.
